Workers for the Alliance for Downtown New York throw discarded Christmas trees into an industrial wood chipper

Workers for the Alliance for Downtown New York throw discarded Christmas trees into an industrial wood chipper during their Mulch Mania event on Saturday, January 9, 2010. Over the weekend thousands of Christmas trees were turned into mulch in the chipping site in Lower Manhattan. The Alliance uses the mulch to insulate plantings and trees and gave away bags to anyone who could use some for their gardens. (© Richard B. Levine)
