A deep rose-red carpet completes thesumptuous furnishing of this room. From the lobby an imposing staircaseleads to the saloon deck. Here is a beau-tifully decorated saloon of the period ofLouis XV. The ceiling is paneled withpapier mache. The color scheme is creamywhite embellished with gold. Carpets andupholstery are of green and the furniture is The ceiling of this companment is com-posed of fifteen groined vaultings, enrichedwith medallions and ornaments. Old gal-leons alternate with sea emblems as thesubject of the medallions. The lunettesarc enriched with paintings on canvas, por-traying sea monsters engaged in combat,and other allegorical figures .symbolizingthe sea.
