In 1848 the first of a series of maps of the city and suburbs appearedin the Official Post Office Directory of Glasgow, the earlier maps beingengraved by Joseph Swan. These Directory maps were much improvedwhen in 1865 their preparation was committed to John Bartholomew,, and the maps issued annually thereafter on a scale of sixinches to the mile have been carefully revised from Ordnance and actualsurvey. ,i.
