Trojan horse, Trojans, sculpture, footpath, Lincolnshire, Wooden, animal, Greek warriors, inside horse, Greek warriors, Nigel Sardeson, farming statue

Situated on the road/cycle path to Bassingham near to Carlton le Moorland from over the hedge reared a magnificent horse, I could almost imagine I was outside the walls of Troy. What a splendid addition to the footpath he is along with the hare and the owls. A tremendous effort from all involved and the best is yet to come in the spring when the thousands of bulbs planted along the margins are in bloom, what a glorious sight it will be. The life-sized Shire horse surely steals the show. His body is made of cedar and his legs of oak. You can safely stroke his nose or pat his neck, but its best not to stand too close to his hind legs! This was a sculpture for a cyclepath in an agricultural area so was chosen for its heritage value as well as aesthetics. It is very imposing, made from three large logs jointed together and irresistable to climb on, if you can. A very popular place to walk, and to ride bikes or horses Once the statue had been built, a number of the Greek warriors, along with Odysseus, climbed inside. The rest of the Greek fleet sailed away, so as to deceive the Trojans. That night, after most of Troy was asleep or in a drunken stupor, Sinon let the Greek warriors out from the horse, and they slaughtered the Trojans Then perhaps people recognized the advantage of the horse's fleetness, tamed the horse, and used it to pursue other animals for food. When food became scarce in one area, the horse helped people move and settle in other areas that were more productive.
