. National Eclectic Medical Association quarterly. p; she was a picture of what we have inthese advanced cases of lesions of the thyroid gland. Partial loss of visionon account of bulging of eyeballs, changing the focus of eyes. In the removal of the gland I made an incision over the posterior partof the left lobe across the anterior surface, extending just below the isthmusof the thyroid and across onto the opposite or right gland, an incision fullytwelve inches in length. The dissection was carried down through the skin, fascia and muscles, covering the anterior part of the neck, and continued, removing the left lobe first, securing the blood-vessels with two or threehemostats, and then assailing the right lobe, pulling it up out of its bed, which extended down under the clavicle, leaving a cavity into which achilds head could be pushed. In this case I removed the isthmus of thethyroid gland and both right and left glands, which weighed approximatelyeight pounds. By reference to Figure 3, the extension of the dissection is very plainly. Fig. 1.—Mis. Operati n April 21, 1878. X s - , , ??? pi
