Two lofty oaks rise from an adjacentbank, beyond which the eye looks to a draw-bridge and a field, thelatter of which is bounded by a hedge and a gate, enclosing a smallcottage. Between them runs the spray-covered wheel, the waterfalling down into the brook which runs towards the foreground,between green banks. A man in black robe and hat and largewhite collar, is seated on the edge of the brook before the mill,reading a paper. On the road, on the right, a man and woman arestanding together in conversation. Clusters of splendid trees; theforest in the background ; white clouds in the sky. Signed on the right, below : M. , 1 ft. 6 1/2 in. by 2 ft. 1/2 in.
