Cliffs at Noses Point above Blast Beach on Durham's Heritage Coast.

On County Durham's Heritage Coast. Looking south along Blast Beach from near Noses Point at Seaham. the distant headland is Chourdon Point. The name Blast may come from the fact that in the past clinker waste was dumped on the beach from an iron works that once existed locally. Ships also emptied their ballast here before taking on their cargoes of iron and coal at Seaham Harbour. The dark sand derives from the local coal that was mined for many years.
