Very large apple trees are hard to free from the scale, much harder than smaller or medium-sized ones. To make it easier to treat them thoroughly fruitgrowers in mfeste<l distri . are heading the trees back severely. In doing this care should be taken to cut close to a side branch, sawing a little on the slope, so that the rain will run otT, and to see that the wound is thoroughly jrainted over to prevent disease getting in and destnying the trees.
