Upon the outbreakof war he resigned and was admitted tothe Second Officers Training Camp atFort Sheridan, w^here he was assigned tothe 1st Company. Upon receipt of hiscommission Lieutenant Jackson wras or-dered overseas, sailing on January 4,1918, as a casual officer. Upon arrival inFrance he was assigned for further studyin American and British schools and, uponcompletion of the courses, ordered to the30th Infantry, with which regiment he andthree other officers of Company G metinstant death by the bursting of a highexplosive shell during the ChateauThierry battle.
