Taxis to Hell -- And Back (No. 8 in series of 10). This Taximan was killed -- Making a volunteer run to rescue 500 Marines trapped on an exposed beach during the invasion of Guadalcanal, Coast Guardsman Doug Munro, Signalman First Class, succeeded in his mission but lost his life in the murderous Jap gunfire. He died asking, "Did they get off?" The Congressional Medal of Honor was awarded posthumously to this Coast Guard hero.
