Tapioca is a starch enriched edible cassava root. This species is native to the North Region of Brazil, but spread throughout the South American continent. Manihot esculenta, with common names cassava (/kəˈsɑːvə/), Brazilian arrowroot, manioc, and tapioca, a woody shrub of the Euphorbiaceae (spurge) family native to South America, is extensively cultivated as an annual crop in tropical and subtropical regions for its edible starchy tuberous root, a major source of carbohydrates.
