Hydra budding, polarized light micrograph. Under the right conditions, this hydrozoan invertebrate reproduces asexually by forming buds that break away when mature. Hydra are small simple predatory fresh-water animals. They catch small swimming crustaceans such as water fleas using stinging and adhesive cells on their tentacles. Dark field illumination.
