View NW of Perpendicular (C15th) wooden roof over the S nave of St Mary's Church, Cilcain, Flintshire, Wales, UK. Arched-braces, hammer beams & angels
View NW of Perpendicular (C15th) wooden roof over the S nave of St Mary's Church, Cilcain, Flintshire, Wales, UK. Alternating arched-braced & hammer-beam trusses decorated with mouldings & carvings of plants, faces & figures. Winged angels on the hammer beams hold shields bearing instruments of Christ's Passion: cords, lance, reed & sponge etc. The roof was brought to Cilcain from a larger, taller building (the roof's scale is too massive & it does not fit the nave's arches) during the C16th Reformation; an unlikely tradition suggests Basingwerk Abbey.
