John Russell Hind (1823-1895), English astronomer. Hind worked at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich between 1840 and 1844, before joining the expedition to the determine the longitude of Valentia Island, Ireland. On his return he became the supervisor at a private observatory in Regents Park, London. Hind discovered 10 asteroids, two comets, several variable stars and a variable nebula in Taurus.
