A Northern Italian painted book cover, circa 1500. Leather-covered wooden book cover. On the front, there is tempera painting and tooled decoration on a gilded chalk background, with an illustration in the centre depicting the Archangel Michael with spear and scale standing over the conquered dragon, surrounded by stamped floral ornamentation. Slightly dented, colour missing in places. An "Ex Libris" bookplate pasted on the back for "Andrea Memmo, Cavaliere a Procurator di St. Marco" with a coat of arms cartouche.
