Growth of the Industry in Pennsylvania.—As stated in the his-torical portion of this article, the first successful works in theUnited States were those of Mr. David O. Say lor, at Coplay, Le-high county, Pa., and this plant, together with the works of theWampun Cement Company, in Lawrence county, were the firstproducers in the State of Pennsylvania. It was practically thesetwo works that furnished the 85,000 barrels of Portland cementmentioned in the census of 1882, and during the early years ofthe industry, when, after the Wampun works ceased to be a largeproducer, it was
