Looking north eastwards out of Merlin's Cave to Tintagel Cove at low tide. Legendary home of Merlin the Wizard.

Looking north eastwards out of Merlin's Cave, below Tintagel Castle, Cornwall. Legendary home of Merlin the Wizard, The double ended cave below Tintagell castle cuts right through the castle promontory and is open the sea at both ends. Access from beach below castle & English Heritage building. It is cut off at high tides & in bad weather. Sandy floor changes as storms push & pull shingle in & out of cave. The south west end opens at a lower level so tide rises fastest at that side. Small beach at that far end. Cave changes profile from open hole on access (NE) side to diagonal slit at SW. Across beach a similar cave cuts through the opposite headland but it is harder to follow the whole way through.
