On the top of his dome Mansart placed a remarkable lanternsurmounted by an obelisk, and he made the outline worse by an over-hanging balcony which disconnected the dome and its first idea had lost itself in details; moreover, Mansart was immersedin business and ever deepening intrigues, and must have left the workalmost entirely to his subordinates.
