The 1-151st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion conducted Environmental Training (Power Management & Mountain Operations) Aug. 27-28, 2016 in North Carolina to train aviators for tactical operations in mountainous environments such as Afghanistan. Pilots trained on procedures for landing on a small pinnacle hilltop at almost 5,000 feet. This training is important because higher altitudes reduce aircraft performance. Reduced aircraft performance coupled with unique mountain wind/turbulence patterns requires specialized training to ensure safe aviation operations.
