A brief explanation of some of the terms and observa-tions used in the following catalogue may be necessary]to enable those, who have not made coins a special study,to understand the technical description of the plates. The contractions AT. JR. ^. W. over the lines join-ing the obverses to the reverses signify the metal inwhich the coin is struck, and are abbreviations for theLatin words Aurum (Gold), Argentum (Silver), Aes PIJ.
