The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal is a multi-purpose arts complex presenting a year round programme of theatre, music, films, lectures and exhibitions, together with a range of amateur participatory activities including art and craft workshops, Cumbria Youth Theatre, and classes. From it's early days in the mid 16th century, when the building materialised as Highgate's first licensed brewery, through it's brewing heyday in the 1930's, when Vaux were supplying 30 pubs across Westmorland, its development in the 1970's as an Arts Centre, to the present day, the Brewery has consistently played a vital role in the leisure and cultural life of the area. Housed in the 150 year old former brewery building in it's own landscaped garden, The Brewery has established a loyal local following and a strong reputation regionally, nationally and internationally since opening to the public in 1972.
