It certainly takes most cars long-er to get through the yards at the end ofa division than it took them to get overthe division. This is the real point in needof radical reform. Direct more attentionto the points where cars spend most oftheir time in the course of a journey, andthere will be no demand for faster freight-train ing against wedge bar while riveting onhalf side sheets in fireboxes. It is simplein its make up and does very good woik, taking the place of an extra helper. It is slot lengthways, and handle made of steel, forged down in middle to give it hammer part is a piece of axle 4% x 9inches, tapered off at end, and spring-steelangle irons slotted to bolt on through stay-bolt holes at each end of long bar, thehandle part that rests on slotted bar havinga .shoulder 24 inches square, and a flangecap resting on top of bar, to keep slot fromspreading, the part projecting through slotbeing f{K2% inches, fastened by a steelkey underneath bar, as shown in our en-graving. s i i .
