Gettler and Norris, US toxicologists and forensic scientists, at work in a laboratory. US medical examiner Charles Norris (right, 1867-1935) established the Office of Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York (OCME) and was the city's first appointed chief medical examiner, serving in that role from 1918 to his death in 1935. US toxicologist Alexander Gettler (left, 1883-1968) worked for the OCME from 1918. Norris and Gettler pioneered many toxicology methods. Gettler later established a toxicology course at the New York University Graduate School. This photograph dates from the period between 1920 and circa 1932.
