The invitation to the American Carnation Society to meet in Boston in 1918 met with enthusiastic approval. In one of the windows of T. F. Gal- vin. Inc., November 24, I noticed a beautiful basket of orchids which • in- cluded such varieties as cattleyas, cal- anthes, cypripediums and Vanda San- deriana and V. Cserulea. John L. Eussell, one of the popular salesmen for Joseph Breck & Son, was married November 15 to Miss Alice Belle Safford. The happy couple have lieen spending their honeymoon at Monadnock, N. H. At the next meeting of the Garden- ers' and Florists' Club, December 19, officers will be elected and J. N. Keeler, New England representative of Hitch- ings & Co., will give a stereopticon lec- ture on greenhouse construction. C. S. Andem, of Putnam, Conn., is sending extra fine carnations to the mar- ket this season. His leading varieties are Alice, Pink Delight, White Wonder ami Matchless. Sweet peas are not at present abun- dant, but J. W. Philbrick & Co., of Beverly, are sending in fine Spencers which readily sell at $2 per hundred. At the great national allied bazaar, to be held in Mechanics building De- cember 9 to 20, at which it is hoped to raise a million dollars for relief, the plant and cut flower booth will be quite an imposing one and great quantities of flowers are sure to be disposed of.
