That operating results areunsatisfactory is readily seen by the latestInterstate Commerce Commission reports,which show that for the nine months end-ing April 1, 1910, eleven railroads of westand north of a line drawn from Chicago toSt. Louis, compared with the same periodin 1909, had their gross earnings increaseabout $50,000,000, while net earningsdecreased $3,500,000
