The Pipiwai Steam flows down the Ohe'o Gulch to meet the Pacific Ocean at Kuloa Point, near the Kipahulu Visitors' Center. Upstream the stream makes a series of pools, popular with visitors as swimming holes. However where the stream meets the sea there are strong currents and warnings of sharks! This area of the Haleakala National Park on the island of Maui can be accessed via Hana to the east or westward to complete a circuit of the island. Either routs provides spectacular scenery.
