Traditional sailing boat in use as a charter for day trippers moored on donkey island (Esek Adasi) of the turkish aegean coast. Cesme is a popular location for country houses and secondary residences for the well-to-do inhabitants of Izmir. In recent decades the peninsula has become one of Turkey's most prominent centers of international tourism. Many hotels, marinas, clubs, restaurants, and other facilities for visitors are found in Çeşme center and in its surrounding towns and villages. The town is at the western most point of the Turkish Aegean coast a short distance from the Greek island of Chios. It is a popular area for watersports, especialy wind and kite surfing, and boats can be chartered for day trips from the harbour. Donkey island is a popular destination. The island provides refuge for around 50 donkeys.
