Y., makes a trolley retriever which, during six years ofcontinuous service on several prominent roads, has been foundto be suitable for interurban work because of its heavy con-struction. Although the first retrievers manufactured gavesuccessful results, the company has continued to improve thedevice in the details of the construction and the methods ofmanufacture. A feature of this retriever is that it has a very heavy adjust-able spring. This permits the pole to be pulled down instantly. Trolley Retriever Complete against heavy tension without injury from violent strains. Anidea of the retrievers quick action may be obtained from thefact that on a central New York interurban line it retrievedsuccessfully when the car was moving at 60 withoutallowing the pole to strike the first span after the wheel leftthe wire. As the sections on this road are 80 ft. long, it fol-lows that the retriever operated successfully in less than onesecond. The retriever enables the trolley pole to go throughplaces with limited clearances because the pole can be adjustedfor pull-down from 2 ft. to 6 ft.
