Costume of Alencon. A peasant woman returning from the market. She wears an apron on top of an apron, and headband on top of headband. Hand-colored fashion plate illustration by Lante engraved by Gatine from Louis-Marie Lante's "Costumes des femmes du Pays de Caux," 1827/1885. With their tall Alsation lace hats, the women of Caux and Normandy were famous for the elegance and style.
