MILNE, GEORGE SMITH MITCHELL: Lieutenant, 10th Battalion GordonHighlanders; son of Charles Milne, draper;bom Aberdeen, 8 August 1894 ; educated Aber-deen Grammar School; graduated , 1914;was studying Economics and Law whew war brokeout. He was a Private in D Company, 4thGordon Highlanders, and was mobilized withthe regiment, serving in the ranks until he wascommissioned in the 10th Battalion in October1914. Milne served in France from October. 1915 till the following August, when he returnedto England to train for the As the resultof a flying accident hewas unable to com-plete his training, andreturned to the 10thGordons, August was killed at Fam-p o u x, 14 October1917, whilst leading adaring daylight raid,from which many aman of iron nervewould have flinched .He had proved himselfa fine soldier and wasbeloved by his men. THOMSON, JAMES GEORGE : Gunner,Royal Field Artillery ; son of JamesThomson, cabinet-maker, Fochabers ;born there, 20 Decem-ber 1893 ; educatedMilnes Institution,Fochabers; m a t r i c u-lated in Arts, 1913. He joined U Company in his firstsession, was mobilizedat the outbreak of warand saw service inFrance with the 4thGordons, rising to the rank of Sergeant.
