A heavy Styrian matchlock wall gun, circa 1560/70 Iron octagonal barrel, slightly swamped at the muzzle, with dovetailed sights, hook on the underside and powder pan on the side. Iron matchlock with spring-loaded cock. Blackened wooden full stock, parts of which have been replaced, with "fishtail butt", iron trigger guard. Length cm. Provenance: Sotheby's, London, 15 December 2004, lot 159. Originally from Frondsberg castle in Styria. The missing barrel of this exemplar was also replaced and not bored through completely.
