Hermitage Castle. Historic Scotland. Scottish Borders


Located about 5 miles north of Newcastleton in the remote and windswept Scottish borders. A stronghold fortress standing close to the river. Consists of a 13th century courtyard and massive 14th century keep. The castle was occupied over the centuries by a variety of feudal familes, including the Dacres, de Soulis, Grahams, Douglas, Hepburn and Bothwell families.
