Thefurther and sufficing answer is that by such public methods weare securing a commodity in our midst which otherwise wemust import, at least in a very large degree, and at the sametime are setting a practical example for others to follow. Itis believed that in adopting this policy of creating State forestsand maintaining them financially the State w^ill realize in theend vastly more than the cost and the interest thereon. It is not pertinent to review in this report the laws or regu-lations of other States or countries, but it may be well to statethat the neighboring State of New York has acquired upwardsof
