Steep cliffs in the Drakensberg Mountains with the higher peaks in the distant. Photographed in the Royal Natal National Park in South Africa. These iconic cliffs and peaks of the Drakensberg Mountains formed due to the combination of the Jurassic period large flood basalt during the break-up of the Gondwana Supercontinent and erosion from the later uplift of the African Continent, which exposed the underlying Clarens Sandstone.
