Sebastian's opened in1852 as a general store and nowadays serves visitors to the famed Hearst Castle State Historical Monument at San Simeon on the Central Coast of California, USA. This is how the historic building looked in the 1980s when it sold mostly groceries, gifts and gasoline. More recently its cluttered facade has had a face-lift to reflect its current revival as a salad and sandwich cafe and a wine tasting room. There are now outdoor umbrella-shaded tables that look out to the Pacific Ocean from Sebastian's waterfront location in Old San Simeon Village just off California Highway 1.
