Children swing at a playground on Shela Island off the coast of the Indian Ocean in Kenya. Shela is one of several islands in Lamu County. This area boasts some of the oldest and most well-preserved Swahili cultural settlements in East Africa. There are no cars on Shela and the town's calendar and daily schedule largely revolves around Islamic religion and culture.
