HDMS Iver Huitfeldt, one of three new frigates of Iver Huitfeldt class delivered to the Royal Danish Navy. Port of Copenhagen
HDMS Iver Huitfeldt, one of three new highly efficient destroyers / frigates of Iver Huitfeldt class delivered to the Royal Danish Navy. Photo taken in the port of Copenhagen. The class is built on the experience gained from the Absalon-class command and support ships, and by reusing the basic hull design of the Absalon class the Royal Danish Navy has been able to construct the Iver Huitfeldt class quite a lot cheaper than comparable ships. The three Ivar Huitfeldt Class frigates are being built by The Odense Steel Shipyard (Odense Staalskibsværft or as often called Lindøværftet). HDMS Peter Willemoes (F362), and HDMS Niels Juel (F363) are the two later ships. Unfortunately Odense Steel Shipyard will close after the completion of the last frigate late 2011.
