St Cybi's Church, Holyhead, standing within the walls (rear L) of a Roman naval fortlet granted to St Cybi by C6th ruler Maelgwyn Gwynedd to found a monastery. Eglwys y Bedd (church of the grave) is the surviving nave & chancel arch of an early C14th church traditionally built on the site of Cybi's grave &/or cell. In 1748 it was used as the first school in Holyhead. Remains of C13th chancel is oldest part of present church, S transept added c. 1480, sculptured & battlemented parapets, S porch & tower all added in the 1500s. Sundial on transept dated 1813.
