"Sparky" Barked a Good Battle. Get out the Purple Heart. Here's "Sparky". With a bandaged eye, the mascot on a Coast Guard-manned assault transport returns from a Marshall Islands beach a veteran of battle and a hero of the wars. Going in with the Marines, "Sparky" did a dog-gone good job of barking at the Japs. He is shown, wearing his own rations for three days, with two pals: Coast Guardsman Torak (Left), chief carpenter's mate, of Trenton, New Jersey, and Marine Corporal William West, of Miami, Florida.
