Dreer's Fragrant Peonies The wonderfully improved Peonies introduced in recent years are truly the 'Queen of Spring Flowers,' and are well adapted for massing in beds, and particularly valuable for planting in groups throughout the perennial or shrubbery bor- der, where their brilliant hues add attraction to all around. Their requirements are so simple—a good, rich, deep soil, and an open sunny position; which, however, is not absolutely necessary, as they thrive almost equally as well in a partly shaded position, and a liberal suj ply of water during their growing season being sufficient to give an abundance and wealth of flowers, which rival the finest Roses in coloring and fragrance, and produce during their flowering season a gorgeous effect not equalled by any other flower. They are perfectly hardy, requiring no pro- tection whatever, even in the most severe climate, and once planted increase in beauty each year. An important point to observe in the planting of Her- baceous Peonies is not to plant too deep. The roots should be placed so that the crowns are covered with two inches of soil.
