A portrait of Englishman Dr Thomas Byrom 1691-1763 as a young man . He is also known as John Byrom of Kersal / Manchester. He studied medicine in France, wrote hymns and became a Stenographer & poet who revolutionised early shorthand systems. He was also a substantial landowner. He is credited with inventing the phrase Tweedledum & Tweedledee. His daughter was accused of witchcraft
