Seeds for pollution clean-up. The gloved hands of a researcher hold seeds of the plant Moringa olei- fera, which can be used to purify polluted water. Long green seed pods are also seen. The seeds are crushed to powder and placed in polluted water. Proteins in the seeds attract biological pollutants in the water (including bacteria and viruses) and bind to them. The seed powder then coagulates with the bound pollutants and can be easily filtered out, leaving the water clear and safe to drink. Moringa oleifera is found growing in many poor countries. It offers a cheap, clean way of purifying water.
