He is of good Americanstock, being descended >m the maternal side fromthe Backus family, one of the oldest in Connecti-cut, and his father served honorably in both theMexican and Civil wars, being in the army at thetime of his death. Mr. Loydon was born Aug. 6, 1861, in N. A., son of Marshall Marvin and\larv Melinda (Backus) Loydon. Marshall was born Sept. 29, [820, in Boston, he spent his early life, and learned the tailorstrade. On Sept. 21, 1840, he enlisted, at Utica. N. A,in the United States service, and remained in thearmy five years, being discharged Sept. 21. the expiration of his term >^\ service, at ForiMarion, Fla., as a private of Company E, 8th.
