Dinslaken, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Regional vegetable cultivation at the sewage plant. SUSKULT demonstration plant, hydroponics food production system in which plants grow soilless using mineral nutrient solutions as part of an indoor cultivation system. SUSKULT obtains the required resources carbon dioxide, phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen as well as heat and water from a sewage plant, in this case the Emschermuendung sewage plant. Together with the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT, the Emschergenossenschaft is taking a completely new approach. Sewage plants are to be places of agricultural production in the future.
