Reading Poor House, Berkshire, England, 1626, the poor house was located on Minster Street, opposite St Mary's church, and with access to the Holy brook and Mill stream. By 1628. the site had been redeveloped to provide a workhouse for poor clothier & became known as 'The Oracle'. It consisted of rows of workshops around a central courtyard, the main entrance, at the north side was through an ornate Dutch-gabled stone gateway.
