The lipoma feels hard or soft, according as the fibrous septa or the fatpredominates. When there is an excess of fat, the sense of fluctuation is sodistinct that the inference that the tumor is cystic is almost irresistible. Underthis impression Goodell inserted an exploring needle into his case. It is easy to mistake such a mass for a hernia, where the pedicle is broadand extends up into the inguinal canal,
