F. Hamiltonremarks (Ibis, 1871, p. 305)—The first intimation given of thepresence of one of these birds is a sharp whirring sound very likethat of a childs small wooden rattle, followed by two or three sharpsnaps. The same observer adds (loc. cit.) of a member of thekindred genus Chiroxiphia, containing 5 species, that C. caudata isknown to the Brazilians as
