The Esteros del Ibera is an extensive network of streams, wetlands, lakes and marshes covering between 15,000 and 25,000 km ² in the province of Corrientes in northeastern Argentina. It is only surpassed in size by the Brazilian Pantanal, with which form the second largest wetland in the world, part of a much larger river system, the Ibera macro system, about 1,300,000 hectares, which is developed very large subtropical ecosystem diversity. According to recent studies, the presence of land vertebrates includes about 85 species of mammals, 35 of reptiles and about 45 species of amphibians. There are approximately 360 species of birds, among which over 90% are native to the region.
