The Chinese mythological figures represented in this early 1900s illustration are from left to right: the God of Happiness, clothed in blue official robes and taking his small son to court; the Spirit of Happiness; the criminal judge Yang Cheng, who advised the emperor not to consider the dwarfs in his empire slaves and who as a result was venerated as the Spirit of Happiness; and also, as the God of Riches and the God of Longevity, a dwarf here paying respect to the Spirit of Happiness.
