Autumn trees at Foresters Oaks; Wentwood, Monmouthshire
A group of deciduous trees in autumn at Forester's Oaks, Wentwood. Wentwood Forest extended from the River Wye to the River Usk and remains the largest ancient woodland in Wales. Historically, the forest was subject to forest laws, enforced through twice yearly meetings of the forest court. These took place at Forester's Oaks. Much of the deciduous woodland has been replaced by plantations of larch, making these deciduous stands special. However, the larch plantations have been subject to the disease Phytophthora ramorum and have been clear-felled.
